Shoyu Chicken

This Hawaiian-style shoyu chicken is tender, juicy, and packed with savory-sweet flavor. It's a family favorite that's incredibly easy to make with just a few pantry staples.

In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, ginger, garlic, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.

Add the chicken thighs to the pot, skin-side down. Ensure the chicken is mostly submerged in the liquid.

Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 45 minutes.
Step 4
Turn the chicken pieces over and continue to simmer, uncovered, for another 30-40 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the chicken is tender.
